The official clarified that despite the new charges being implemented, the property registration fee in Uttarakhand is still lower than many other states.

In mountainous cities like Dehradun, Nainital, Mussoorie, Almora, Ranikhet, and Kotdwar, buying a house, land, or flat has become more expensive than ever before. The Uttarakhand government has increased property registration fees from ₹25,000 to a maximum of ₹50,000. After nearly 10 years, the government has increased registration charges. A notification has been issued regarding this. According to the notification, the state government has increased the registration fee charged by the Stamp Department to ₹50,000. These new rules came into effect as soon as the notification was issued.

Now buying a house, land or flat has become expensive

This decision by the Uttarakhand state government will impose an additional financial burden on home and land buyers. Residents of the state, or those from other states, who wish to settle in the Uttarakhand mountains will now find themselves with a much tighter budget than before.

Following a notification signed by Finance Secretary Dilip Jawalkar, the revised fee rates came into effect across Uttarakhand on Monday evening. The Inspector General of Registration’s office has directed all districts to process registrations according to the new registration fees. These fees are used by the Stamp Department for various activities and administrative purposes. The implementation of the new instructions may also lead to some changes in the document registration process.

Understand how much less the charges are compared to other states.

Assistant Inspector General of Registration, Atul Kumar Sharma, clarified that despite the new fees being implemented, property registration fees in Uttarakhand are still lower than in many other states. Citing the example, he explained that in Uttar Pradesh, the registration fee is one percent of the property’s total value, and there is no maximum limit. This means that the fee increases as the property’s value increases. In contrast, in Uttarakhand, the maximum fee limit is set at ₹50,000. This maximum limit provides some relief to property buyers.
