Under the scheme, all beneficiaries receive a free RuPay debit card with an accident insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh.

Recently, the Finance Ministry said that the number of accounts under Jan Dhan has increased from 14.72 crores in March 2015 to 56.16 crores by 13 August 2025. 56 percent of the account holders are women. At the same time, 67 percent of the accounts have been opened in rural and semi-urban areas. Rs 45 lakh crore was transferred directly to the accounts of beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). 94 percent of India’s adult population now has a bank account.
Debit cards worth Rs 38.68 crore issued
A total of 38.68 crore RuPay debit cards have been issued to Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana account holders. This has facilitated them in cashless transactions and access to built-in accident insurance cover. These accounts are eligible for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Atal Pension Yojana (APY), and Micro Units Development and Refinance Agency Bank (MUDRA) Yojana.
