PM announces establishment of e-commerce platforms for made by self help groups products

More than 8 crore women are associated with self-help groups, which make more than one product. The government will now set up an e-commerce platform to support them.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 15 said that the government will set up an e-commerce platform to provide a market for products made by Self Help Groups (SHGs). Giving his traditional address to the nation on the occasion of 75th Independence Day on Sunday, the Prime Minister said,

“More than 8 crore women in the village are associated with self-help groups, who make more than one product, they will be supported by the government. For this, now the government will create an e-commerce platform so that they can set up an e-commerce platform for their products to get a big market in the country and abroad.

Prime Minister (PM Narendra Modi) further said that the country is moving ahead with the slogan ‘Vocal for Local’. The Prime Minister said, “India has started the ‘Local for Vocal’ initiative and it is our responsibility to buy indigenous products. Our dream of a plastic free India can be realized only when we completely stop the use of single use plastic.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the country is entering its 75th year of independence from today and the journey from here till 100 years of independence is the “nectar of India’s creation”. He said that this goal has to be achieved with “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas”.

The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has launched a single brand ‘Sonchiriya’ to promote the products of Urban Self-Help Groups (SHGs). This information has been given in an official statement. According to the statement, one of the priorities of the government is to make women “economically empowered and help them lead a dignified life”.

Talking about the development in rural areas, he said, “Today we see our villages changing rapidly. In the last few years, facilities like roads, electricity have reached the villages. Today optical fiber network is providing data power to villages.”



As a part of the celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also unfurled the national flag at the Red Fort.
