EPFO’s important decision will give relief to lakhs of employees. Now PF transfer claims will not get stuck just because of mismatch of dates. EPFO i.e. Employees Provident Fund Organization has given an important information regarding PF transfer claims. Now if there is overlapping of dates in the service period between two jobs, then the PF transfer claim will not be rejected only for this reason. EPFO has given this information by issuing a circular on 20 May 2025.

EPFO observed that many regional offices were rejecting PF transfer claims only because the dates of service were overlapping in the records of the old and new employer. But this often happens due to some common and correct reasons.
- In case of delay in recording the last working day of the old employer.
- On joining the new employer early.
- In case of typing or managerial mistake in the records.
Due to these minor reasons, the PF transfer of the employees was getting delayed. Now EPFO has clearly said that if there is any such reason behind the overlapping, then the claim should not be rejected.
What is Overlapping Service Period?
When the date of relieving an employee from the job in the previous organization and the date of joining the new organization match or appear to be crossing each other, then it is called overlapping service period. Often this happens due to technical mistake or wrong entry of dates. The employee is not at fault in this.
What does the new rule of EPFO say?
According to EPFO, if there is overlapping in any transfer claim and if needed, the concerned officer can ask for clarification from the employee, but the claim will not be rejected only due to overlapping. This step has been taken to make the PF claim process easier and faster.
What should employees do?
- Keep your joining and relieving letter safe while changing jobs.
- Keep the information linked to Aadhaar in the PF account updated.
- If any clarification is sought from EPFO, submit the document immediately.
- EPFO has made many changes recently.
EPFO is continuously making the PF process easier. Recently, EPFO has made the process of PA claim easier than before. It includes filing claims through digital medium. Now there is no need for cross cancelled cheque or bank passbook. Also, online claims are being settled faster.
