Government period leave policy: Women face a variety of physical and mental challenges during their periods. During this time, their energy levels can decrease, often leaving them feeling tired.
Addressing this issue, the Karnataka government has taken a significant decision. The Karnataka government has taken this decision to promote the health of working women and equality in the workplace.
Under this decision, the Karnataka Cabinet has approved the Menstrual Leave Policy 2025. Under this policy, working women will be granted one day of period leave. Notably, this decision will benefit women in government employees, as well as those working in the textile industry, multinational companies, IT firms, and many other sectors.
Karnataka State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil informed after the cabinet meeting that “The cabinet has approved one day period leave in a month for women working in sectors ranging from apparel to information technology and many other sectors.”
You should know that the Karnataka government had proposed granting women six days of period leave a year in 2024. However, after a cabinet meeting, it has now been decided to increase this to 12 days of period leave a year (one day a month).
Women in Bihar receive two days of period leave each month. Furthermore, the Odisha government recently decided to grant one day of period leave to women in government jobs.
