Paytm User Alert! Will Paytm UPI Shut Down from August 31? Company Gives Major Update

Paytm UPI : Financial services major Paytm has clarified that Google Play’s recent notification on changes in the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) handle was incomplete and may cause confusion.

The company said in a statement that there is no disruption in UPI payments on Paytm and transactions for both consumers and merchants remain uninterrupted.

This update is only for recurring payments like subscription billing. Paytm explained, “This means that if a user was paying for YouTube Premium or Google One Storage or any recurring platform through Paytm UPI, he simply needs to replace his old @Paytm handle with the new handle linked to his bank, which is @pthdfc, @ptaxis, @ptyes or @ptsbi.”

For example, if a UPI ID was ABCD@Paytm, it will now be ABCD@PTHDFC (or as per the bank). One-time UPI payments will not be impacted and will continue as normal. Paytm said the change is part of its migration to new UPI handles after receiving approval from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to operate as a Third Party Application Provider (TPAP).

The deadline to complete the update for recurring mandates is August 31, 2025, which is why Google Play has issued this alert. Reassuring customers, Paytm said that this is a simple update that ensures seamless recurring payments while all other UPI transactions on the app continue without any changes.

Paytm reported a profit after tax (PAT) of Rs 123 crore in Q1 FY26, while the company’s operating revenue grew 28 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,918 crore. EBITDA for the quarter ended June stood at Rs 72 crore, reflecting Paytm’s disciplined approach to cost structure and driving growth and efficiency through embedded AI capabilities.

Paytm has expanded its leadership position in India’s merchant payments landscape by continuing to add new device subscriptions across MSMEs and enterprises.
