India had 16.7 lakh (1.67 million) deaths in 2019 from stroke, heart attack, diabetes, lung cancer, chronic lung diseases and neonatal diseases due to the long-term effects of outdoor and domestic air pollution. Most deaths in newborns resulted from low birth weight and complications related to premature birth. According to the report air pollution is now the biggest risk of death among others. This report has been published on Wednesday by the Health Effects Institute, or HEI1 (Health Effects Institute). It is an independent, non-profit research institute. It is funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency and others.
