Nitin Gadkari News: A lot has changed across the country, from the development of roads to electric vehicles. While giving information, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that now it is working on developing electric highway.
Nitin Gadkari said that the government is working on developing electric highways as it is economically viable. Gadkari had earlier said that it was his dream to build India’s first electric highway between Delhi and Jaipur.
Electricity will be available at the rate of Rs 3.50 per unit
Speaking at the annual conference of the Automobile Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) here, the minister said that regarding the electric highway, my view is that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will give the right of way… Today I have spoken to the Ministry of Power. I am trying to get electricity at the rate of Rs 3.50 per unit, otherwise the commercial electricity rate is Rs 11 per unit.
Easy to provide electricity at affordable rates
The minister said that it is easy for the Power Ministry to provide electricity to a government company at a cheaper rate. He has said that the electric highway is very economically viable… I will give all rights to the private sector investors who are going to invest (in the electric highway project).
Who will do what work?
Gadkari said that the work of construction of electric cable will be done by private investors and NHAI will collect electricity charges like toll.
What is the function of electric highway?
Electric highways provide electric traction for vehicles in much the same way as railways. It is based on the technology prevalent in a large number of countries such as Sweden and Norway.
This includes the provision of a power cable that can be used by a vehicle that is equipped with this type of technology. The vehicle will use the electricity received from this cable to run. At present the ministry is evaluating various technologies.
The first electric highway project is being built
He has said that we are building the first electric highway project in Nagpur on an experimental basis. The minister said that India is the fastest growing major economy and the automobile industry is the pride of the country.
Vehicle industry is worth Rs 12.50 lakh crore
He said that the automobile industry is currently worth Rs 12.50 lakh crore, which is much more than Rs 4.15 lakh crore in 2014. He took over the post of Road Transport and Highways Minister in 2014. Gadkari said that the import of crude oil is continuously increasing. The country needs to find a solution to this crisis.
