New RBI ATM Rules 2025: Free transactions, cash limit and bank charges… know what has changed

0

New RBI ATM Rules 2025: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has changed the rules related to ATM transactions. These have a direct impact on the pockets of common customers.

From the limit of free transactions to cash withdrawal and bank charges, many rules have now changed. In such a situation, it is important to know what things you should pay attention to while using the ATM so that you do not have to pay extra money.

How many free ATM transactions will I get?

According to RBI rules, customers can make free transactions from ATMs a maximum of 3 times a month in metro cities and 5 times in non-metro areas. This includes services like cash withdrawal as well as balance inquiry and PIN change. SBI is currently working on its old charge structure, while banks like HDFC, PNB and IndusInd have changed it.

Cash deposit and withdrawal limits

Nowadays, depositing cash from cash recycler machines is usually free. But after the free limit of ATM withdrawal is completed, banks start charging. That is, if you withdraw more cash than the free limit, the bank will charge you as per the prescribed rules.

How much will be charged after the free limit?

Once a customer crosses the monthly free tranaction limit, banks may charge up to ₹23 per transaction plus GST. For example, PNB charges ₹23 on financial transactions and ₹11 on non-financial transactions. HDFC Bank, on the other hand, charges a flat ₹23 on all types of transactions.

Strictness on cash transactions in India

Not just ATMs, strict rules are also applicable on cash transactions across the country. If a person withdraws or deposits cash of Rs 20 lakh or more in a financial year, then it is mandatory for him to provide PAN and Aadhaar number. The government’s aim is to make cash transactions transparent and curb black money.

How to avoid extra charges?

If you want to avoid unnecessary bank charges, try to do most of the transactions from your own bank’s ATM. Also, use digital banking for everyday needs. This will not only save your time but will also make banking more economical.
