Banks and financial institutions are required to use regular 10-digit numbers for TRAI promotional activities and special series like ‘140xxx’ for commercial or promotional activities. During the deliberations, it was noted that the Department of Telecom (DOT) has developed AI-machine learning-based engine ASTR to detect mobile connections taken on fake/counterfeit documents. It said around 1.40 lakh mobile handsets either linked to disconnected mobile connections or misused in cyber crime or financial fraud have been blocked.

Integrating the CFCFRMS platform with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) will centralize the platform, further strengthening collaboration between police, banks and financial institutions. This will enable timely monitoring and prevention of fraudulent activities.
