The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a statement on the ongoing news about changing the picture of Mahatma Gandhi on the notes.


In fact, in the past, it was reported in some news that the Finance Ministry and RBI are considering using the pictures of other prominent Indians including Rabindranath Tagore and APJ Abdul Kalam on banknotes of certain denominations.

New Delhi : The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a statement on the ongoing news about changing the picture of Mahatma Gandhi on the notes. In fact, in the past, it was reported in some news that the Finance Ministry and RBI are considering using the pictures of other prominent Indians including Rabindranath Tagore and APJ Abdul Kalam on banknotes of certain denominations.

‘No such proposal in Reserve Bank’
RBI said on Monday that there is no proposal to replace Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait on banknotes. RBI said in a statement that there have been reports in certain sections of the media that the Reserve Bank of India is considering a proposal to replace the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi with others in the existing currency and banknotes. “There is no such proposal in the Reserve Bank,” the statement said.

There were reports of changes in some series of notes.
Earlier, media reports were quoted as saying that the Finance Ministry and Reserve Bank of India are reportedly considering making changes on some series of notes. Under this, the picture of Rabindra Nath Tagore and former President APJ Abdul Kalam can be seen on some notes.

Mahatma Gandhi’s pictures are being printed on the notes
It was being said that this is the first time that the Reserve Bank of India is considering using the picture of Mahatma Gandhi along with other people on the notes. Let us tell you that the picture of Mahatma Gandhi has always been printed on the Indian currency.

According to media reports, the RBI and the Security Printing and Meeting Corporation of India have sent two different sets of samples of Gandhi, Tagore and Kalam watermarks to Professor Dilip T Shahani, Emeritus of IIT-Delhi. Sahni has been asked to choose from two sets and put them up for final consideration by the government.
