Mayor wrote letter to CM Kejriwal

In a letter sent to Arvind Kejriwal, Mayor Mukesh Suryan has written that, during Navratri people take only pure vegetarian food, also observe a fast for 9 days and also abstain from consuming non-vegetarian food, alcohol and some spices.

The scene of open liquor consumption and sale in shops near the temple area makes them uncomfortable. Their religious beliefs and sentiments get affected when they come across such liquor shops on their way to the temple to offer prayers. The display of liquor bottles in liquor shops and people drinking liquor outside the shops is a delightful sight for such passers-by.

Demand for closure of liquor shops arose

The mayor further wrote that, instead of curbing the sale of liquor during the Navratri period, the Delhi government has encouraged its use by giving exemption on the sale of liquor, while the liquor shops should be closed during the Navratri festival and obscene display of liquor. should also be banned.

Keeping in view the sentiments of the general public and in the interest of the public at large, you are requested to direct the concerned authorities to close the liquor shops during the period of nine days (Navratri festival running from 2nd April 2022 to 11th April 2022). And appropriate necessary instructions should be issued to take appropriate necessary action to stop the consumption of liquor outside these shops.

Meat will not be sold in these areas of Delhi during Navratri

Earlier, Mayor Mukesh Suryan also wrote a letter to the South Delhi Municipal Commissioner asking for a ban on meat shops as well. According to the mayor, keeping in view the sentiments of the public, necessary instructions may be issued to the concerned officers to take action to close the meat shops during the 9 days of Navratri festival from April 2 to April 11. This will maintain purity inside and outside the temple.
