Jumped Deposit Scam- Tamil Nadu Police has issued an alert regarding ‘Jumped Deposit Scam’. In this scam, the fraudsters first put money in the victim’s account.
Jumped Deposit Scam: Cyber fraudsters invent new ways every day to fraudulently withdraw money from people’s bank accounts. Now once again they have come up with a new trick to empty the bank account of UPI users. It has been named ‘Jumped Deposit Scam’. This method of fraud is so unique that the person who has fallen victim to it does not have the slightest idea that he is being cheated. In this method, first the cyber fraudsters send money to the bank account of their ‘victim’ through UPI. They know that most people check their bank balance as soon as they get the message of money being credited. As soon as the person receiving the money enters the PIN to check his balance, money is withdrawn from his account.
Tamil Nadu Police has issued an alert regarding this scam. Along with this, many complaints of this scam have also been registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Tamil Nadu Police says that if an unknown person has sent money to your account through UPI, then you need to be careful.
This is how the account gets emptied
The fraudsters deposit a small amount in a person’s bank account through UPI. Immediately after this, they request the person to withdraw a larger amount than the amount deposited. As soon as they get the message of money being deposited, most people usually open their UPI app to check their bank balance. For this, they enter their Personal Identification Number (PIN). Because, the fraudsters have already sent the request to withdraw money from the account, so their withdrawal request gets approved as soon as the PIN is entered and the money is withdrawn from the account.
Save your money like this
UPI users can avoid this scam in two ways. The first way is that if you get a message of money being deposited, then you should wait for 15-30 minutes before checking the balance. This will cause the withdrawal request to expire automatically after some time and your PIN entry will have no effect. Another way is that if you don’t have time to wait, intentionally enter the wrong PIN so that the previous transaction gets rejected.
