ITR Verification: Delay in verifying ITR? Know the complete step-by-step process to avoid penalty

Due to confusion, some people were late in verifying their ITR, due to which penalty was imposed on them. In such a situation, there is a need to request the Income Tax Department to waive the penalty. Let us know step-by-step how this is done.


Many times it happens that after filing the Income Tax Return, there is a delay in its verification (ITR Verification). Let us tell you that for those who had filed income tax returns till July 31, 2022, the limit for verifying ITR was 120 days, whereas after that this limit has been reduced to 30 days. In such a situation, due to confusion, some people were late in verifying their ITR, due to which they were penalized. In such a situation, there is a need to request the Income Tax Department to waive the penalty. Let us know step-by-step how this is done.

Step-1: First of all you have to login to the e-filing portal. For this you will need user ID and password.

Step-2: On the dashboard, you have to click on Condonation Request under the Services tab.

Step-3: On the Condonation Request page, you will have to select Delay in submission of ITR-V and click on Continue.

Step-4: Click on Create Condonation Request on Delay in submission of ITR-V page.

Step-5: After this, on the Select ITR page, you will have to select the period for which you want to submit the condonation request. After that you have to click on Continue.

Step-6: After this, Provide reason for delay page will open, on which you will have to select the reason for delay and then click on Submit.

After this you will get the message that the request has been successfully submitted. In this message you will also get the transaction ID, which you should write down somewhere, so that it can be used in future if needed. This message will also be sent to you on email and registered mobile number.

After this you will have to wait for the communication from the Income Tax Department. In that you will be told what to do next.
