ITR Filing Deadline: Date For Filing ITR should be Extended from 15 September to 15 October – Association Demand

0

ITR: Taxpayers and chartered accountants across the country are facing huge difficulties in filing income tax returns (ITR) and tax audit this time. The associations are demanding that the date for filing ITR should be extended from 15 September to 15 October.

Currently, the last date for filing ITR is 15 September. Both taxpayers and chartered accountants are troubled due to constant technical problems on the ITR portal, late release of forms and overlapping compliance dates. For this reason, the Karnataka State Chartered Accountants Association (KSCAA), ICAI’s Central India Regional Council (CIRC) and Advocates Tax Bar Association (ATBA) have sent a representation to the Finance Minister demanding an extension of the deadline.

Demand for ATBA

ATBA has said that the deadline for filing non-audit ITR should be October 15, 2025 and the deadline for submitting tax audit report should be November 30, 2025. He says that the Supreme Court has also said many times that the purpose of the timeline is to advance justice, and not to harass taxpayers with penalties.

ATBA’s National General Secretary Om Kumar said that many difficulties have been mentioned in the representation given to the Finance Minister recently. Many reasons have been given in it, in which the disruption of normal life and work due to floods in many parts of the country is also a major reason. The late arrival of ITR utility form, technical glitches on the portal and the burden of compliance have increased further during the festive season. Due to this, the deadline has been asked to be extended.

KSCAA says

KSCAA has written in its representation sent on 10 September 2025 that ITR-5, ITR-6, ITR-7 and many audit forms were released only in July-August. Whereas, they should have come by 1 April. This gave very little time to taxpayers and professionals.

Apart from this, many filing deadlines like GST, MCA and tax audit come together between July and October. On top of this, holidays and weather problems are also making the work more difficult. ICAI’s CIRC has also said that there is a lot of pressure on tax professionals and taxpayers. Due to late arrival of ITR forms and portal problems, it is difficult to file tax audit report by 30 September.
