Delhi airport’s runway 10/28 has now been upgraded to CAT IIIB standards, allowing flights to land safely even in dense fog. It is expected to be fully operational from September 16.

A big update has come regarding the country’s busiest Delhi airport. Now passengers will not face any problem even in the foggy weather of winter. Airport runway 10/28 has been upgraded as per CAT IIIB standards, which ensures safe landing even in dense fog. An official said that DGCA will soon conduct the final audit of the runway and it will be fully operational from September 16.

Since June this year, around 200 flights were getting affected daily due to the closure of the runway. This runway was closed in April as well, but strong winds affected air operations so much that only 32 flights could land instead of 42 per hour. Due to this, many airports suffered a lot. The Ministry of Civil Aviation intervened and ordered Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) to reopen the runway. Now the upgradation that started in June is about to be completed and passengers are going to get relief.

With new flooring, modern aerobridges, sparkling washrooms and strong structural repairs, this terminal is now better than ever. An official said, ‘The renovation of Terminal 2 will provide convenience to passengers in winter.’

Mathematics of flights

Since June, DIAL was cancelling 114 flights every day and scheduling 86 during non-peak hours. Delhi airport handles around 1,450 flights daily and the cancellation rate had reached 7.8%, much higher than the usual 3-4%. DIAL CEO Vidhe Kumar Jaipuriar had earlier said, “We are trying to ensure that passengers face minimum inconvenience.”
