Pharmaceutical companies said, ‘They are stuck at the airport about 200 tons of raw material from China. For which a demurrage charge of about 2 crore rupees has been paid.

After the India-China border dispute, goods imported from China are being closely inspected. But among them, some companies are facing problems due to delay. Pharmaceutical companies allege that they are facing heavy delays on Chinese consignments which are stuck at airports without any fault. However some medicine containers coming from China have been approved by the Customs Department. Pharma companies say that about 200 tonnes of raw material is trapped at the airport.



According to the news published in the Economic Times,Representatives of the pharma industry said that some major pharmaceutical containers containing consignments of vitamins and some important medicines, etc. have not yet been approved. Along with this, the port authorities are demanding a demand charge for the delay. The late fee is the duty levied on the importer which is levied more than the allotted time. He said that in case of air consignments, the delay charges are being levied by the authorities 24 hours after arriving at the cargo terminal.

2 crores paid –Dinesh Dua, chairman of the Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council (Pharmacil), said that many pharma companies have paid late fees for their air consignments. This fee is being charged at the rate of Rs 14 to Rs 22 per kg per day. According to Dua, till now 200 tonnes of raw material was stuck, for which about 2 crore rupees have been paid.

An executive of the pharma industry, on the condition of anonymity, said, “They are investigating 100% consignment coming from China, which is causing delays.” Customs officials are asked to check all cargo coming from China, causing delays.
