Heavy Rain Alert: Heavy to very heavy rains are continuing in many states including Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa. The Meteorological Department (India Meteorological Department) has predicted that heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue over the west coast Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra and Goa during the next 48 hours.

According to the India Meteorological Department, a pressure area over Bangladesh is likely to move almost north-northeastwards and weaken into a low pressure area during the next 12 hours. Under its influence, very heavy rains are likely to continue over the northeastern states till May 31. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue over Kerala, coastal Karnataka and the Ghat region of Tamil Nadu. On May 30, there will be extremely heavy rains at some places in Kerala and thereafter it will decrease.

Weather will change due to western disturbance

The effect of western disturbance will be seen in the northwestern part of the country for the next 4 to 5 days. Rains with thunderstorms and strong winds are likely in northwest India for the next 4-5 days. According to a report by Skymet Weather, a western disturbance is active as a cyclonic circulation at an altitude of 3.1 km over Jammu and Kashmir. Another western disturbance persists over northern Afghanistan and adjoining areas between 3.1 to 7.6 km altitude. A cyclonic circulation persists over South Punjab. A cyclonic circulation is also active over western Rajasthan. Cyclonic circulation also persists over northern parts of central Uttar Pradesh. Due to this seasonal activity, heavy rains and strong winds are expected in the coming days.

Heavy rains in parts of Meghalaya and Assam

During the last 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rains were recorded in most parts of Bangladesh. Heavy rains also occurred in some areas of Assam and Meghalaya. Sohra in Meghalaya recorded 217 mm of rain and Shillong recorded 135 mm of rain. All the states of the Northeast received moderate to heavy rains. In the coming 48 hours, strong winds can blow at a speed of 70 to 95 km/h in Assam, Meghalaya, Gujarat, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura. Heavy rains are expected in many areas including West Bengal, Sikkim, Andaman-Nicobar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Tamil Nadu.

Monsoon will knock in Bihar and Bengal

The southwest monsoon has already reached all the states of Northeast India ahead of time. According to Skymet Weather, this system can further advance the monsoon currents and reach Gangetic West Bengal. The monsoon can now reach North Bengal and the adjoining sub-Himalayan West Bengal. The monsoon can also reach Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Madhubani and other Terai areas bordering Bihar. The speed of monsoon will be slow in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh bordering West Bengal, eastern Uttar Pradesh and eastern Madhya Pradesh. To take the monsoon forward in these areas, it will be necessary to form a new system in the Bay of Bengal.

Where will it rain today

According to a report by Skymet Weather, during the next 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rains, strong winds and hailstorms are likely in Bangladesh and Northeast India. After this, light to moderate rains with heavy rains may occur in some places in West Bengal and Northeast India. Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, South Chhattisgarh and Lakshadweep are also likely to receive light to moderate rains and heavy rains at some places. Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad may receive light to moderate rains with heavy rains at one or two places.
