IMD Heavy Rain Alert: Mumbai may once again witness the havoc of rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned on Saturday that heavy to very heavy rains may occur during this period. The monsoon had slowed down in Mumbai for the past few days, but now the clouds have become active again. The reason for this is oligo cyclonic activities and weak southwest monsoon winds, which are affecting the region.

“A yellow alert has been issued for the next 24 hours. The red alert that was issued earlier was only for 2-3 hours of heavy rainfall. Since that rainfall has now reduced, it was considered as a nowcast warning,” IMD scientist Sushma Nair told news agency ANI.

Possibility of rain from 7 to 10 June

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast partly cloudy sky and light to moderate rain or thundershowers in Pune and Mumbai from June 7 to 10. During this period, the minimum temperature is likely to be between 25 to 26 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature is likely to be between 32 to 33 degrees Celsius.

It will rain in these areas

The Meteorological Department has attributed the rain to the southwest monsoon winds. Similar weather is forecast in other districts including Jalgaon, Nashik, Pune and Nagpur, where thunderstorms may occur at isolated places. The Meteorological Department said that the spell of rain will continue in Mumbai till June 11.

Monsoon arrived early in Mumbai

Earlier this week, many areas of Mumbai received heavy rains. On Friday too, rain was recorded in different parts of the city, with Santacruz area receiving 14 mm of rain. So far, the ongoing monsoon has given moderate rainfall in Mumbai. In the last six days, Colaba has recorded 30 mm of rain and Santacruz 47.1 mm. Although the temperature was slightly below normal, the weather felt humid and hot due to the high amount of moisture in the air.
