IMD Heavy Rain Alert: Heavy to very heavy rains are expected at isolated places in five states of Northeast India. Strong winds of 40 to 60 kmph are also expected in some areas. Heavy rains have been continuously occurring in these states since Thursday night. According to the Regional Meteorological Center in Guwahati, this rain is due to the pressure formed over Bangladesh, which is slowly moving towards the northeast.

The next 24 hours are very important

The IMD said, “The heavy rains that are happening at this time are due to the pressure formed over Bangladesh. This system is slowly moving towards the northeast and is likely to weaken and turn into a normal low pressure area in the next 24 hours.” People have been advised to remain alert and follow the guidelines issued by the Meteorological Department.

Chances of heavy rains in Tripura and Mizoram

ASDMA said in its statement, “People who travel daily or are going on long distance travel should plan their journey keeping in mind the weather. Do not go out unnecessarily during heavy rains. People living in low-lying and hilly areas should keep an eye on any sign of flood or landslide and remain alert.”

Red alert for heavy rain in five states

People appealed to remain alert in Manipur

Authorities in several districts of Manipur—Kangpokpi, Senapati, Thoubal, Churachandpur and Noni—have appealed to people to remain alert and follow weather related safety advice. This warning has been given in view of the red alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). According to the government statement, heavy to very heavy rains may occur in many parts of the state from May 29 to June 1. Along with this, strong winds (speed 30 to 40 km / h), lightning and thunderstorms are also expected. Some places may receive 7 to 11 cm of rain in 24 hours. Officials of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD) said that three rivers flowing through the Imphal valley—Imphal River, Nambul River and Iril River—have reached close to the danger mark.
