IMD Alert! Warning of heavy rain till December 18 in 8 states, fog-cold wave in these areas, know complete details

A cyclonic circulation is expected to move westwards south of Nicobar Islands, due to which weather will change over the east coast of Tamil Nadu early next week. Similar weather conditions are expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on 19th December.


IMD Rainfall Alert: If the Meteorological Department is to be believed, a warning of heavy snowfall has been issued in the mountainous states on Thursday. Rain forecast has been issued for South West India including South East. Severe cold alert has been issued in Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.

Effects of cyclonic circulation
Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, a low-pressure area has formed over the central Arabian Sea including Southeast and North Kerala-Karnataka. It is likely to move rapidly over the far west-northwest of the Indian coast. There is a possibility of its turning into depression. Due to which rain will be seen in Maharashtra Tamil Nadu Kerala Karnataka Rayalaseema. Rain alert has been issued in Kerala once again from 21st December.

Weather system
Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over south Andaman Sea and adjoining Malacca and Sumatra Straits, a low pressure area has formed over south Andaman Sea and adjoining areas of southeast Bay of Bengal.

It is very likely to move slowly westwards and a well-marked low pressure area would form over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean by 15th December. It is likely to move westwards, intensifying till the morning of 17 December 2022.

Severe cold in Delhi after this week
In the capital Delhi , a drop of 4-5 percent in temperature can be seen in the next 2 days. Actually, due to the cold wind coming from the northwest, a drop in temperature is being seen. The minimum temperature can drop to 6 degree Celsius. Apart from this , the period of drop in temperature is also continuing in Rajasthan and Gujarat . Due to snowfall, a forecast of severe cold has been issued in Delhi after this week.

Weather activities
Meanwhile, cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in some parts of Punjab from December 16 to December 18. Cold wave conditions are possible in some parts of Punjab . Thunderstorms are expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Sub- Himalayan West Bengal , Sikkim, West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and Interior Karnataka .

Heavy rain forecast in Maharashtra
According to the Meteorological Department, a warning of heavy rain has been issued in 8 states of South India during 24 hours. At the same time, with the conversion of this pressure area into a depression, a forecast of heavy rain has been issued in Maharashtra including Andaman and Nicobar, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu. There is a possibility of rain in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Vidarbha and Goa.

Cold has increased continuously in North India. Cold wave forecast has been issued in North West Central India. The climate has cleared in the capital Delhi. The minimum temperature has been recorded below 10 degree Celsius.

Fog and mist alert in Meghalaya as well
Unseasonal rain is being seen in Maharashtra, while dense fog may remain in Himachal Pradesh, UP and Bihar today. Rain forecast has been issued in many states including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka. Fog and haze alert has also been issued in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya.

Widespread effect in the plains due to cold wind
Fatehpur in Rajasthan recorded a minimum temperature of 2.5 degree Celsius on Wednesday. On the other hand, the people of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar are feeling shivering. The effect of weather will be seen in the plains, the temperature will continue to fall. Cold wind due to snowfall will see widespread effects in the plains.

Alert of rain-fog-cold wave in these areas

  • Heavy rain may occur over Nicobar Islands.
  • Widespread rain and thundershowers very likely over Andaman, Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.
  • Thunderstorms are expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe.
