IMD Alert : Rain alert in 24 states till 28 May, entry of monsoon in this on 27 May, know details

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast the onset of monsoon in Kerala by around May 27, with a plus or minus model error of four days. An expert said that although the onset of this year in Kerala may be around the estimated date, thereafter the progress of monsoon is likely to be slow for a few days. An IMD official said that further progress may slow down after the onset of monsoon over Kerala.

According to IMD, there is no possibility of heat wave in the region for the next few days. The weather model suggests that the monsoon current may take some time to reach southwest Bay of Bengal after it starts over Kerala. IMD officials were of the view that monsoon often works in alternating strong and weak pulses. The meteorologist said that we have recently seen a strong monsoon pulse. A weak one is running now. It may take some time for the next monsoon surge to set in.

Another IMD official said that the first strong pulse of monsoon was experienced over Andaman and Nicobar islands during the onset of cyclonic storm Asani. It will take some time for the next strong pulse to re-establish. The official also said that though the monsoon may start over Kerala in the next few days, it will not be strong.

Anupam Kashyapi, head of the Meteorological Forecasting Department, IMD, said that the Bay of Bengal Monsoon Branch is currently not looking active for the next few days. It is particularly related to the south central and southeast Bay of Bengal. Models indicate that the Arabian Sea Branch of Monsoon may become active around May 30-31, after which the Bay of Bengal Branch should also strengthen.
