IIT Kanpur Cybersecurity Course: To combat the growing incidence of cyber fraud and hacking in the digital age, IIT Kanpur has taken a unique initiative. The institute is launching a new four-year course, the “Bachelor of Cyber Security,” starting this July session.

The biggest and most comforting aspect is that admission to this course will not require students to pass the JEE Advanced, unlike traditional engineering courses. Students will gain entry to this prestigious institute based solely on their JEE Main score.
Admission will be given in this unique way
The selection process for this course at IIT Kanpur is completely different from that for other engineering branches. According to the institute, applicants will first be shortlisted based on their JEE Main scores and their previous work or interest in the field of cybersecurity. Selected students will then be invited to the IIT Kanpur campus, where a written exam and hackathon will be conducted. Only those who pass this exam and hackathon will be granted final admission to the course.
2 years of study and 2 years of internship in government departments
IIT Kanpur Director Prof. Manindra Aggarwal stated that cybersecurity has become a vital component of national security today. Future wars will be fought not only on borders but also in cyberspace, requiring the country to develop skilled experts.
This course is designed so that students spend the first two years on the IIT campus, studying cybersecurity theory and receiving practical training in the lab. The following two years will provide students with direct internship opportunities with various government security organizations. During these internships, students will gain practical experience in dealing with real cyber threats and challenges.
Who will take charge of this course?
This new course will be fully administered by the institute’s Wadhwani School of Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems. Professor Nitin Saxena, Dean of the school, stated that the market demand for cybersecurity experts is rapidly increasing. Combining strong academics and experience working in government departments will provide the country with excellent cyber warriors.
