GST: On the basis of data and information received from various agencies, the government has launched a strict campaign against those who steal the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Action was taken against 7,000 entrepreneurs under this campaign, in which 187 have been arrested. Finance Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey gave this information on Sunday. He said that the government’s tax revenue has improved rapidly due to this campaign. The government received a GST of Rs 1.15 lakh crore in December 2020. This amount is the highest GST ever achieved in any one month. For this, the action being taken against tax evaders and the improvement in the economy is being considered as the main reason.

Pandey said that a total of 187 arrests, including five chartered accountants and a company secretary, have taken place in the last one and a half months due to the action taken against the fake bills of GST. He said, “Many of these people, including some managing directors, have been in jail for the last 40–50 days.” There are some big companies among them, who were found involved in fake bills scam through multiple transactions. By doing so, these companies were stealing GST and income tax. Therefore, cases have also been registered against him.

Pandey said, “We have taken action against 7,000 tax evaders out of the tax base of 1.20 crore. In that sense, our success rate is very high. ”Pandey is also the Finance Secretary as well as the Revenue Secretary. He said that whatever action has been taken is based on the information received from various agencies of the government. These include Income Tax Department, Customs Unit and FIU, GST Department and Banks etc. This action was taken against those who have misused the system.
