The government has decided to provide insurance facility to lakhs of Anganwadi workers and helpers during COVID-19 duty. The central government will now provide an insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh for them under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. This information has been given by the officials of the Ministry of Women and Child Development of the Central Government.



Sources in the Ministry of Women and Child Development have told that more than 13 lakh Anganwadi workers and more than 11 lakh helpers of the country will be insured for Rs 50 lakh. During the Corona period, Anganwadi and ASHA workers had made their demand for risk allowance and insurance cover while on corona duty. Anganwadi workers have a big role in giving impetus to the vaccination campaign.

Anganwadi workers and helpers involved in duties related to COVID-19 will now be given an insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package, a senior official said on Tuesday. An official of the Ministry of Women and Child Development said that Anganwadi workers and helpers who are involved in activities like COVID-19 awareness and monitoring campaigns and door-to-door ration distribution will be covered under the scheme.



Anganwadi workers and helpers are covered under an insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package for the entire period of the pandemic that started from March 11, 2020, the official said. The package covers loss of life due to COVID-19 and accidental death in the course of duties related to COVID duty.

here are about 13.29 lakh Anganwadi workers and 11.79 lakh helpers in the country. Sources said, the district administration has been asked to identify the Anganwadi and ANM workers who are involved in the works and duties related to COVID-19. States have been informed about this. It is up to them to implement it. The Center is ensuring that assistance is given to the states under the package.
