The wait for over 8 lakh aspirants is coming to an end. After successfully conducting the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering across two weekends in February, IIT Guwahati has entered the final stage of the evaluation cycle. With the Final Answer Key released this morning, the calculation of normalized scores is complete, and the results are being uploaded to the server.

How to Check Your Result

Once the link is activated, follow these steps to access your qualifying status:

  1. Visit the Portal: Go to gate2026.iitg.ac.in or goaps.iitg.ac.in.

  2. Login: Use your Enrollment ID / Registered Email ID and your GOAPS password.

  3. Dashboard: Click on the “Result” tab.

  4. Details: Your screen will display your raw marks (out of 100), your GATE Score (out of 1000), and your All India Rank (AIR).

Understanding the GATE Score vs. Marks

It is important to distinguish between your “Marks” and your “Score.”

  • Raw Marks: The actual total you get based on the final answer key.

  • GATE Score: A normalized value calculated to account for the varying difficulty levels across different shifts of the same paper. This is the number used by IITs and PSUs for shortlisting.

Post-Result Timeline: Scorecards & COAP

  • March 19: Result declaration (Qualifying status & AIR).

  • March 27: Official Scorecard download begins (Free until May 31).

  • May 2026: COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) and CCMT (Centralized Counselling for M.Tech) portals will open for seat allocation.

Reality Check

The release of the final answer key often brings “surprises”—minor corrections in technical questions can shift ranks by hundreds. In 2026, papers like Data Science & AI (DA) and Computer Science (CS) saw record-high registrations, meaning the competition for a “top 500” rank is tighter than ever. If your score falls slightly below your expectation, remember that many state-level universities and private R&D firms accept GATE scores well into the 400–500 range.

The Loopholes

IIT Guwahati states the result will be out on March 19. In fact, this is a “Server-Load Loophole”—as soon as the link goes live, the GOAPS portal often crashes due to high traffic. Therefore, trying to log in at exactly 4:00 PM might lead to frustration. Still, the “Scorecard Loophole” remains; if you don’t download your scorecard by May 31, 2026, you will have to pay a ₹500 fine to get it later. Download it today and save it on multiple cloud drives.

What This Means for You

If you are an aspirant, keep your enrollment ID ready now. First, realize that the merit list (Toppers’ List) is usually released 1–2 hours after the individual results are available.

Then, if you qualify, understand that PSU recruitment applications (like ONGC, GAIL, and NTPC) often open within 48 hours of the result—you must apply to each PSU individually using your registration number. Finally, understand that the normalized score is what matters for the “Old IITs”; even with lower raw marks in a “tough” shift, your normalized score could still be high enough for a call.

What’s Next

Expect the Topper’s List and Subject-wise Cutoffs to be published on the official website by late tonight. Then, look for IIT Gandhinagar’s early M.Tech admission window, which closes on March 25. Finally, expect PSU recruitment notifications to flood the news cycle starting Monday, March 23.
