In Noida, households will have to shell out more for garbage collection. The garbage collection agency has increased the collection fee by approximately 20 percent. The new fee was implemented last month. Residents say that along with the fee hike, the garbage collection system also needs to be streamlined and regularized.
The Noida Authority has entrusted AG Enviro Infra Project Private Limited with the responsibility of collecting garbage from homes. Officials stated that the Noida Authority has implemented the Solid Waste Rules 2016 to ensure door-to-door waste collection and transportation. The authority set the fees for door-to-door waste collection in 2020. These fees were implemented on November 26, 2020.
Officials stated that the contract with the agency provides for a five percent increase in fees every year, but no increase has been made in the past four years. Consequently, a 20 percent increase was decided this year, which has been implemented. Residents in sectors and societies are paying fees for garbage collection, but the agency is currently unable to collect fees from villages.
Officials explained that the agency collects waste separately from households. Dry waste is taken to a site in Sector 145 for disposal, while wet waste is disposed of through various means within the city. Noida Authority General Manager SP Singh stated that the increase in door-to-door garbage collection fees has been approved. The new fees were implemented last month.
