Former Jharkhand CM Shibu Soren has passed away. The former CM breathed his last at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi. Popularly known as ‘Dishom Guru’, Shibu Soren was undergoing treatment at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for more than a month. 3 days of state mourning has been announced on his demise.
President and Nitin Gadkari went to the hospital
Just a few days ago, President Draupadi Murmu and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had gone to Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital along with Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to inquire about Shibu Soren’s health. Shibu Soren was undergoing treatment at Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital since June 2025. Where he was put on ventilator support for brain stroke and kidney related problems.
The former CM was three times
Shibu Soren was the founder and prominent leader of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). He was also known as Dishom Guru. Shibu Soren was born on 11 January 1944 in Nemra village of Ramgarh district of Jharkhand (Hazaribagh district of erstwhile Bihar). He was the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand. He served as CM thrice (2005, 2008, and 2009). However, he could never complete his CM term.
A long battle was fought for the rights of the tribals
Shibu Soren played an important role in the Jharkhand movement. He started the ‘Dhankatni Movement’ for the rights of the tribals. Under this, he united the tribals against the moneylenders and moneylenders. He was a Lok Sabha MP from Dumka from 1980 to 2019 and was currently a Rajya Sabha MP. Under his leadership, JMM made a decisive contribution in making Jharkhand a separate state.
