A major road accident happened in Himachal’s Kullu on Monday morning. A bus full of passengers fell into a deep gorge in the Sainj valley. 16 people have died in the accident and many people are seriously injured. At least 6 school children are among the dead. The injured have been rushed to the hospital, with many of them in critical condition. Expressing grief over the accident, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur have wished speedy recovery to the injured.
It is not yet clear what is the cause of the accident. It has been raining heavily in Kullu since last two days. The weather is very bad. At around 8 am on Monday, the private bus fell out of the driver’s control and fell into a 200-metre-deep gorge in the jungle area of Sainj Valley on the Nioli-Shansher road in Kullu district. The bus blew up. The accident site is about 65 km away from the district headquarters.
More than a dozen people died on the spot. As soon as the information about the accident was received, the administration started relief and rescue work. The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals. Kullu SP Gaurav Chand Sharma said that emergency team was sent to the spot as soon as the information about the accident was received. Even before the arrival of the rescue team, the local people started relief and rescue work.
