Lucknow. Power Corporation management has issued an order to install only smart prepaid meters in giving new electricity connections. Corporation Managing Director Pankaj Kumar has said in the order issued that in the areas where the work of installing smart meters is going on, prepaid meters should be installed even in the case of replacing a faulty meter or replacing the meter due to load increase. However, there will be no compulsion to install pre-paid smart meters in new connections of agricultural consumers.
In this regard, Power Corporation Chairman Dr. Ashish Goyal told the officials to keep three things in mind while installing smart meters. Where the old meters of consumers are being replaced with new smart meters, no money should be taken from the consumers for the smart meter.
No money is to be charged for replacing the meters of consumers with faulty ones and installing new smart meters. For installing smart meters on new connections, the amount for the smart meter should be charged as per the cost data book approved by the Electricity Regulatory Commission. The chairman directed that if there is any outstanding amount in the smart meter, the concerned consumer should be called and asked to deposit the bill so that the connection does not have to be disconnected.
