There is good news for electricity consumers. A new system of smart meters is going to be started soon in Gorakhpur district. Let us tell you that from October 1, 75,547 smart meters will be converted to prepaid mode. Now consumers will not have to wait to pay the bill like before. Like mobile recharge, electricity will also have to be recharged in advance.
This change is being made through the software of the company Genesus. According to the company, this technological change will be done in a phased manner and about two and a half lakh smart meters will be included in this process. Thousands of consumers will benefit from this new system. In prepaid mode, the electricity rate will be 2 percent lower than postpaid.

What impact will this change have?
– Now if there is any outstanding bill, electricity will not be disconnected, but the outstanding amount will be added according to the consumer’s consumption.
– Prepaid consumers will have to pay about 2% cheaper charges per unit, that is, a direct benefit.
– Consumers will be able to recharge their required amount from the app, website or electricity corporation counter.
SMS created a stir, but the real message came out…
From Thursday evening, consumers started receiving an SMS informing them that their connection would be converted to prepaid mode from September 25. This unexpected message created confusion among the people and was considered as a cyber fraud. However, on Friday, the electricity department engineers clarified that it was a real message and the smart meters of the district are now being converted to prepaid mode.
What facilities will there be in the prepaid system?
– Consumers will be able to see their daily electricity consumption.
– Outstanding bill can be paid in 10 easy installments.
– “PUVVNL Smart Bill” app is available to lodge complaints, view bills and make payments.
According to Vikrant Mishra, CGM of Jeans Company, this change will prove to be convenient and beneficial for the consumers. He said that transparency in the prepaid system will increase and wastage of electricity will also reduce.

Which consumers have been included first?
– Domestic consumers have been included in the first phase.
– Smart meters have also been installed at commercial consumer locations, but the prepaid facility is currently limited to domestic connections.
– Some smart meters already installed in the metropolis will continue to operate on the old postpaid system.
