Saurabh Dhiman, District Project Officer (Rohtak-Jhajjar) of Disaster Management of District Revenue Department, has said that 12 districts including Rohtak in Haryana are considered as earthquake-prone. All these cities are included in zone four. The Mahendragarh-Dehradun sub-surface fault line is said to be responsible for the earthquake near these cities. Which is within a radius of 52 km from Delhi.
He informed that Zone-3 is considered to be the least affected area. Whereas Zone-2 has very low chance of earthquake. The District Project Officer says that it is believed that there are minor cracks inside the fault line. But their depth and the exact cause of cracks taking place at the right place are constantly being studied.
Earthquake of Rohtak shaken by earthquake 197 times in 51 years
District Project Officer Saurabh says that since May 1969, earthquake tremors have been recorded 197 times since May 1969. The earthquake struck 20 km from Rohtak. Out of these, earthquake tremors have been felt 35 times on three or more Richter scale. The study also revealed that more earthquake tremors were felt in the morning.
At the same time, the fault line is passing through Rohtak city and Sampla area. But only twice, there was an earthquake zone within one km of the city. Most of the time it happened that Rohtak got earthquake tremors within a radius of five km or 20 km.
