Driving License New Rules: The new rules for driving license are coming into effect from June 1. Know where the license will be made now and how much fee will be charged.

Driving License New Rules: Many important changes are going to happen for driving license in India from June 1, 2024. Now people will not have to pass the driving test in the Government Regional Transport Office (RTO). The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced new rules to make this process easier.

What will be the necessary changes?

Driving Test in Private Institution: Applicants can now give their driving test at a private driving training center authorized by the government instead of RTO. These centers will take tests for license eligibility and give certificates.

Focus on environment: To reduce pollution, the ministry has planned to phase out about 9,00,000 old government vehicles and implement strict car emission rules.

Strict fine will be imposed: The fine for speeding is between Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000. However, if a minor is caught driving, a heavy fine of Rs 25,000 will be imposed. The vehicle owner’s registration card will be canceled and the minor will not get a license until he turns 25.

Easy Application Process: The Ministry has simplified the process of maintaining the documents required for a new license. Now there will be no need to carry documents with you.

What are the new rules for private driving schools?

Land will be required: Driving training centers should have at least 1 acre of land for training of light vehicles and 2 acres of land for training of heavy vehicles.

Testing Facility: Driving schools will have to provide good testing facility.

Required qualifications of the trainer: The trainer should have a high school diploma, at least 5 years of driving experience and knowledge of biometrics and IT systems.

How many days will the training be?

  • Light Motor Vehicle (LMV): 29 hours in 4 weeks, which will include 8 hours of theory and 21 hours of practical training.

  • Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV): 38 hours in 6 weeks, which will include 8 hours of theory and 31 hours of practical training.

How much will the license fee be?

  • Fee for issuing learner license: Rs 150
  • Learner License Test Fee: Rs 50
  • Driving Test Fee: Rs 300
  • Fee for issuing driving license: Rs 200
  • Issuance of International Driving Permit: Rs 1,000
