Rekha Gupta’s government has provided significant relief to vehicle owners in the capital, Delhi. Now, there’s no need to scrap 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol vehicles. The government has changed a rule that allows these old vehicles to be re-registered in another state.
It should be noted that previously, if your vehicle was registered in Delhi and was older than 10 (diesel) or 15 (petrol) years, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Delhi Transport Department was only available within one year of the registration expiration. However, this one-year limit has now been completely removed. This means that owners of older vehicles can now apply for a NOC at any time, even if the vehicle’s registration has expired.
What are the benefits to vehicle owners?
After receiving the NOC, vehicle owners can re-register their vehicles in another state where such vehicles are not banned. This government move will not only provide relief to vehicle owners from financial losses but will also reduce the number of old vehicles on Delhi’s roads. This will also help control pollution and alleviate the ongoing hassle of vehicle scrapping.
Such vehicles will not run in Delhi from November 1.
To control the rapidly increasing air pollution in Delhi, the Delhi Transport Department has taken strict action on the orders of the Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM). From November 1, 2025, the entry of commercial vehicles from outside states older than BS-VI standard will be completely banned at the borders of the capital. The department is informing the people about this through SMS. This decision was taken especially in order to prevent the air quality from reaching dangerous levels in winter. The Transport Department has also issued a public notice in this regard.
