The unrest broke out after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced Ashutosh Tiwari as its official candidate for the upcoming Datia assembly bypoll, directly sidelining Mishra. The former home minister, who narrowly lost the seat in the 2023 state elections, was widely anticipated to secure the nomination and had already purchased his official nomination forms.
