The real estate world is in shock today. Specifically, CJ Roy, the chairman of the Confident Group, died by suicide on Friday, January 30, 2026. Police reports say he shot himself in the head at his Bengaluru office. Notably, this tragic event happened while Income Tax officials were conducting raids on the premises. Roy was 57 years old. Consequently, the police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances of his death.

The Details of the Incident

The Income Tax department began searching Roy’s companies on Thursday morning. Specifically, the raids were part of a probe into assets that did not match his known income. During the search, Roy reportedly told officials he was going to another room to fetch more documents. Instead, a gunshot was heard shortly after. Staff members rushed to the room and found him in a pool of blood. He was taken to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Who Was CJ Roy?

CJ Roy was a well-known figure in the South Indian business community. First, he built the Confident Group into a major real estate brand. The company has a massive presence in both Kerala and Karnataka. Next, he was a successful film producer. He backed major projects like the big-budget movie Casanova starring Mohanlal. Furthermore, his group was the title sponsor for several seasons of Bigg Boss Malayalam.

Similarly, his family was not in India at the time of the incident. The police are now in contact with them to share the news. Therefore, the case is currently being treated as a self-inflicted shooting while the post-mortem results are pending.
