This new change will affect vehicle owners as well as cab passengers. Under this guidelines, no taxi aggregator will be able to increase the arbitrary fare.

The Ministry of Roads and Transport has decided in the new guidelines that the fare of Ola, Uber cannot be more than one and a half times the base fair even in peak hours. Following the government’s new guidelines, licenses have become necessary for aggregators like Ola, Uber. Now the driver will get 80 percent of the fare. After this, the aggregator will not be able to charge more than 20 percent. The base fare will be 3 km. The new rules also say that the aggregator can give up to 50 per cent discount on base rent. The aggregator can only charge 1.5 times the surcharge. If the driver cancels the trip, then 10% of the fare will have to be paid.

Nominee is necessary for vehicles

MoRTH proposes amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Under the new rule, the owner of a vehicle will be able to nominate one person in the registration certificate (Nominee). Nomination facility is proposed to be provided at the time of registration of the vehicle. This will help in transferring the vehicle to its nominee if the owner of the vehicle dies.


Registration of vintage vehicles – The Ministry has sought suggestions under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) 1989 relating to vintage motor vehicles. The official press release states that there is no e-rule regarding registration of vintage cars. Hence a formal registration process needs to be started. Explain that any motorcycle or car which is 50 years or more old is proposed to be called a vintage motor vehicle.
