CGHS rules have changed, it is important for central employees to know, otherwise they will be troubled while getting treatment

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has increased the fees of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). Government employees get their treatment at subsidized rates under CGHS. Apart from treatment, room in hospital at low rates under CGHS, treatment at subsidized rates in some private hospitals etc.


The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has increased the fees of the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). Government employees get their treatment at subsidized rates under CGHS. Apart from treatment, under CGHS, you can get room in hospital at low rates, treatment at subsidized rates in some private hospitals, etc. CGHS provides primary health care for central government employees, pensioners and dependents of select beneficiary groups.

So many people are taking advantage of CGHS

Through the CGHS scheme, more than 4.2 million registered beneficiaries are availing treatment at subsidized rates in private hospitals. CGHS is spread across 79 cities and is expanding to Panchkula, Hubli, Narela, Chandigarh and Jammu. More than 103 AYUSH centers are also part of CGHS service.

CGHS rates have been revised

1) OPD Consultation Charges: After the recent changes, the Out Patient Department (OPD) charges have been increased from Rs 150 to Rs 350.

2) IPD Consultation Fee: The IPD consultation fee has been increased by Rs 50. Now it has increased to Rs 350.

3) ICU Charges: Rs 5,400 will be charged for ICU services for a day.

4) Room Rent: The room rent has been increased by 1.5 times. 1,500 for general rooms, Rs 3,000 for semi-private ward and Rs 4,500 for private rooms.

Government expenditure will increase

These changes will increase the extra expenditure of Rs 240-300 crore. This is the first such change since 2014. There are over 1,670 private hospitals and 213 labs empaneled under CGHS. This includes leading private hospitals like Medanta, Fortis, Narayana, Apollo, Max and Manipal Hospitals.
