The Central Media Accreditation Guidelines-2022: “Security, sovereignty and integrity” as well as acting against “public order, decency or morality” Government will recognize journalists


New Delhi: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has said in its new guidelines that along with “security, sovereignty and integrity” of the country, “public order, decency or Journalists who work in a manner unfavourable to “ethics” (public order, decency or morality) will lose their official recognition. The Central Media Accreditation Guidelines-2022 was announced on Monday. Under this, guidelines have also been given for the recognition of journalists working for online news forums.

Journalists will lose their recognition for two years

Even if a journalist or his media organization is found to be giving false documents or false information, his/her recognition will be suspended for a minimum period of two years and a maximum of five years. In addition, accredited media persons are prohibited from using the words “recognized by the Government of India” on public/social media profiles, visiting cards, letters or any form or any published material.

Rules will be made for online news

Under the new policy for online news platforms, digital news publishers applying for accreditation will have to submit the required information to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting under Rule 18 of the Information Technology (Intermediate Guidelines and Digital Media Code of Conduct), 2021 and rules. shall not be violated.

Online media portal must keep journalists in Delhi

As per the policy, the online platform should be more than one year old and the website should have a registered office in India and should have journalists in Delhi or NCR. If the information provided by the applicant is found to be incorrect, he will not be able to apply for recognition for the next three years.

Central Media Accreditation Committee to be constituted

The Ministry is setting up the Central Media Accreditation Committee (CMAC) under the chairmanship of Principal Director General, Press Information Bureau (PIB) and consisting of 25 members nominated by the government. This committee will function for two years from the date of its first meeting and will take over the responsibility of suspending recognition of journalists. A sub-committee of the CMAC consisting of five members nominated by the CMAC will decide matters relating to grant of recognition. The sub-committee will also be headed by the Principal Director General of PIB.
