Center will give 10 lakh government jobs in next 18 months, know which department has maximum vacancies

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the central ministries and departments to make 10 lakh recruitments in the next 18 months. This announcement has come at a time when the opposition has been continuously raising the issue of unemployment in the country.

New Delhi: On the government job front, the Modi government at the Center has given a big gift to the youth of the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the central ministries and departments to make 10 lakh recruitments in the next 18 months. This announcement has come at a time when the opposition has been continuously raising the issue of unemployment in the country. The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted, ‘PM reviewed the position of human resource in all departments and ministries and directed that the government should recruit 10 lakh personnel in mission mode in the next 1.5 years.’

Union Minister Jitendra Singh told Parliament earlier this year that as of March 1, 2020, 8.72 lakh posts are vacant in various central government departments. The central government has sanctioned more than 40 lakh posts in its various departments, but at present less than 32 lakh employees are employed. The government has been trying to fill these vacancies for years, but with no success. Most of the vacancies are in the big ministries and departments like Posts, Defense (Civil), Railways and Revenue.

According to the information available with News18, about 2.3 lakh posts are vacant in the Railways as against the sanctioned posts of about 15 lakh . The Defense (Civil) Department has about 2.5 lakh vacancies against the sanctioned strength of about 6.33 lakh employees. The Department of Posts has around 90,000 vacancies against the total sanctioned strength of 2.67 lakh, while in the Department of Revenue, there are around 74,000 vacancies against the total sanctioned strength of 1.78 lakh employees. About 1.3 lakh posts are vacant against the sanctioned 10.8 lakh posts in the Home Ministry.

A senior central government official told News18, “Due to acute shortage of staff, the work of some departments is getting affected and the process of new recruitments has slowed down due to the corona pandemic. However, during this time the employees have retired. Even the sanctioned strength of employees in the ministries has increased over the years. The move will also prevent criticism of the Modi government by the opposition on the unemployment front ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Union Home Minister
Amit Shah says that PM Narendra Modi’s announcement of recruiting 10 lakh youth in the next 1.5 years will bring new hope and confidence in the youth. The Congress has taken a jibe at the PM’s announcement to recruit 10 lakh people in the next 18 months. Party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, “It is said that Billy went on Hajj by eating 900 rats”. We are experiencing the worst employment (rate) in 50 years, the value of rupee is the lowest in 75 years… till when will the PM distract us by playing ‘Twitter Twitter’.
