Not only this, he said that the government has assured to consider it. The matter has reached after PM Modi, PM Modi can take a big decision on it in the last week of November.

If the government agrees to pay the arrears of 18 months in one go, then it will be good news for the central government employees. This will also be good news for 60 lakh pensioners of the central government. Since their Dearness Relief (DR) is directly linked to the DA announcement. If arrears of 18 months are given to CGS in one go, then pensioners will also get the same DR relief.

Shiv Gopal Mishra, Secretary, National Council of JCM, Staff Side, while speaking on the one-time arrears payment after DA and DR restoration, had said that in a recent meeting with the officials of DoPT and Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, we for one Demand has been raised. Timely distribution of DA and DR arrears for the entire 18 months of Central Government employees and pensioners. Mishra said that the officials of the Modi government have assured to look into the matter, soon Pai will take a decision on it. On the other hand, if the decision turns out to be beneficial, there is a big ray of hope for about 52 lakh central government employees and 60 lakh pensioners.

In March 2020, Anurag Thakur, Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Finance, in a written reply to a question, had said that the increased DA would be added to the April 2020 salary of central government employees and monthly pension of retired central employees. But, unfortunately, there was a lockdown in between and the Center decided to freeze the DA and DR till June 2021.

Therefore, the National Council of JCM, meeting with DoPT and Ministry of Finance (Department of Expenditure), had expressed its concern that the entire 18 months arrears for DA and DR should be given to the Central Government employees and pensioners in one go. The final decision on which is to be taken by Prime Minister Modi.

DA Arrears Calculation:

Time period :               18,000- 56,000

January 2020-June 2020: Rs 4,320-13,656

July 2020-December 2020: Rs 3,240-10,242

January 2021-June 2021: Rs 4,320-13,656

This means that an employee whose basic salary is Rs 18,000, he will get three months DA arrears (4,320+3,240+4,320) = Rs 11,880. Whereas the employee whose basic salary is Rs 56,000 will get DA arrears of 3 months (13,656 + 10,242 + 13,656) = Rs 37,554.
