Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has directed the Finance Department to make payment of revised pension to more than 3 lakh pensioners with effect from July 1, 2021. This will put an additional burden of Rs 1,887 crore on the state government in the current financial year. According to an official statement, this decision has been taken in line with the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission of Punjab.
Channi also directed for encashment of holidays and payment of other benefits like gratuity. It will sit around Rs 915 crore. It will be paid to 42,600 pensioners who retired during January 1, 2016 to June 30, 2021. In all, these decisions will put a burden of Rs 2,802 crore on the exchequer. The Chief Minister said that such revised pension would be paid in lump sum to the pensioners from July 1, 2021.
Earlier in September, the government had increased the city compensatory allowance of state employees from Rs 100 to Rs 200. In the cities where 120 rupees were available, it has been reduced to 240 rupees. Rural allowance will now be five per cent instead of six. But due to increase in basic pay, this amount will be more than before. Apart from this, the government has increased the medical allowance from Rs 500 to Rs 1000.

B Category : Rs.300 to Rs.600
Category A : Increased from Rs.500 to Rs.1000
Traveling allowance also increased
C and D Category : Rs 500 to Rs 1000
B Category : Rs.750 to Rs.1500 increased
Category A: Raised from Rs.1000 to Rs.2000
Let us inform that in September, the Punjab government had announced to give the benefit of the Sixth Pay Commission to the government employees.
