Apple TV on Android has finally received a feature that users have been waiting for. And then that long-awaited feature is Google Cast support, which closes a huge gap between the Android app and the rest of the streaming ecosystem.
The update is rolling out now, making it possible to stream Apple TV’s content from an Android phone or tablet to any compatible device, like a Chromecast, Google TV, or Android TV-powered television.

The Casting Upgrade
-
The Problem Solved: The lack of Google Cast support was a major omission since the Apple TV app was launched on Android. Users were largely restricted to watching on their mobile devices or relying on smart TVs that already had a native Apple TV app installed.
-
How it Works: The update adds a new Cast icon that will appear on virtually every screen within the Apple TV app. Tapping it allows the user to select the Cast-compatible device in the room.
-
Controls: Once casting begins, the app remains the remote. You get the usual controls for playback, including play, pause, rewind, fast-forward, and controls for subtitles and audio preferences.
-
Action: To get the feature, Android users must update to the latest version of the app, which comes in as version 2.2 on the Google Play Store.

The Content Hook
While the content library isn’t as huge as competitors like Netflix, the thing is, Apple TV continues to put out critically acclaimed and high-profile programming:
-
Notable Hits:
-
F1\ Movie: A highly anticipated film now available for streaming.
-
Pluribus: A new series from the creator of Breaking Bad (Vince Gilligan).
-
Award Winners: Critically acclaimed series like Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, and Slow Horses.
-
The service is highly focused on its original content. Apple offers a seven-day trial period for new subscribers. Here’s the kicker: this short trial means users will want to make the week count to see if the exclusive content is worth the subscription.
