Bharti Airtel’s Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) calling feature, which was launched in December, has crossed 1 million users and the operator has rolled-out the service to Airtel users across India, the telco said on Friday.

The technology can be accessed over any home or public WiFi network to enhance indoor voice calling experience for Airtel users. VoWiFi technology enables users to make outgoing calls even where there is poor cellular connectivity. It allows customers to make telco grade calls to any network without any extra charges or any additional calling App/SIM.
“The technology has truly transformed the indoor network quality for Airtel mobile customers, particularly in high population density areas in urban markets. Airtel is also the first to make the service LIVE across India and our customers can use the feature on any Wi-Fi,” Randeep Sekhon, CTO – Bharti Airtel, said in a statement.
Over 100 smartphone models across 16 brands including Xiaomi, Samsung, OnePlus, Apple, Vivo, Micromax etc. are now compatible with Airtel Wi-Fi Calling, the telco said.
Reliance Jio also launched its pan-India voice and video calling feature over WiFi on Wednesday which is compatible with 150 smartphone models.
