The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is soon in the process of providing Aadhaar registration for newborn babies in hospitals. The Authority’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Saurabh Garg said that UIDAI is trying to tie up with the Registrar of Births to provide Aadhaar numbers to newborns.

99.7 percent adult population registered in Aadhaar

Garg said, “99.7% of the adult population is registered in Aadhaar. We have registered 131 crore population and now our effort is to register newborn babies. Two to 2.5 crore babies are born every year. We are in the process of registering them in Aadhaar.

120 crore bank accounts linked with Aadhaar

The CEO of UIDAI said that after birth, the Aadhar card will be provided by taking a normal picture of the newborn. We cannot collect the biometric of a child below five years of age but it will be linked to his or her mother or father. After completing five years, the biometric of the child will be taken. Out of 140 crore bank accounts, 120 crore are linked with Aadhaar.

Efforts to give Aadhaar number to the entire population

Garg said, “We are trying to give Aadhaar number to our entire population. Last year we organized 10,000 camps in remote areas where we were told that many people do not have Aadhaar numbers and 30 lakh people were registered.

Every year 10 crore people update name and address

“We had allotted the first Aadhaar number in 2010. Initially our emphasis was on registering as many people as possible and now we are focused on updating it. Every year around 10 crore people update their name, address, mobile number.

The government’s remaining two and a half lakh crore rupees from Aadhaar

At the same time, according to the report of news agency ANI, Aadhar (card) has completely excluded the fake beneficiaries from the system. Saurabh Garg, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aadhaar issuing body UIDAI said that the central government has saved Rs 2.25 lakh crore due to Aadhaar. According to Garg, 300 schemes of the central government and about 400 of the states have been linked with Aadhaar so far. The direct benefit of this is that the fake beneficiaries of these schemes are getting caught immediately.

Payment of amount directly into accounts

The Central and State Governments are paying the amount of help to the beneficiaries under these schemes through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) directly into their accounts. Garg had said that the amount of savings of Rs 2.25 lakh crore is from the Central Government alone. If we add to this the savings made by the state governments, then the figure can go up significantly. Aadhaar has made the implementation of government schemes very easy.

Didn’t even have to go to the ATM

During the Corona crisis, the government has sent the amount of help directly to the poor and downtrodden in their accounts through Aadhaar. Not only this, due to Aadhaar, people did not have to go to any bank branch or ATM to withdraw this amount from their account. He also took out money around himself through micro ATMs installed in his neighborhood grocery shop.

Gather information related to making Aadhar card

Garg said that in the coming years, the priority of UIDAI will be around three-four things. The first of these is that people should get maximum services and facilities. Under this, we have given the facility to the people to update the records through the computer sitting at home. Right now, more than 1.5 lakh postmen will go to village-village across the country and collect information related to updating Aadhaar as well as making a new Aadhaar card. We are opening more than 50,000 Aadhaar centers for 6.5 lakh villages across the country.

Focus on linking with bank account

According to Garg, UIDAI is developing a mobile application, on which people will be able to update Aadhaar and do money transactions. It is also focusing on complete linking of Aadhaar with PAN, mobile SIM card, ration card and bank account. He said that Aadhaar is actually a program of technology. In such a situation, we want to strengthen it and make it more and more secure for the users with the help of technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain and machine learning.
