Aadhaar card is required for everything from banking education to availing benefits of government schemes. If there is any mistake in your Aadhaar such as name, address or date of birth, then there may be a problem for you. UIDAI, the government agency that issues Aadhaar card, is currently providing the facility to update the old Aadhaar for free. Let us know its complete process.

Aadhar card has now become an important part of our life. It is necessary for everything from banking, education to taking advantage of government schemes. In such a situation, if there is any mistake in the name or address in the Aadhar card, then a problem occurs. This mistake is especially seen in old Aadhaar cards.

In view of this, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the government body issuing Aadhaar card, has now made online updation of Aadhaar free. Let us know for whom this free facility is available, for how long it will be available and how Aadhaar can be updated online.

When will Aadhaar be updated for free?

According to government rules, it is necessary to update the information of 10 year old Aadhar card. If you update the name or address in your 10 year old Aadhar card by March 14, you will not have to pay any fee. Usually, there is a fee of Rs 50 for updating each detail (demographic and biometric data) in Aadhaar. Even if you go offline and get this updated, you will have to pay the fees fixed by UIDAI.

UIDAI had earlier given the facility to update Aadhaar for free till December 14, 2023. Then it has been extended to March 14, 2024. This is a big relief for those whose Aadhaar card was made 10 years ago or they have not updated it since then.

For whom is the free update service?

Free Aadhaar updation is for those people whose Aadhaar card was made 10 years ago and no changes have been made in it. Such people can update information like name, address, date of birth, photo or mobile number for free. You can make some changes online sitting at home. But, biometric details like photo, iris and fingerprint will have to be updated by visiting Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

You will not have to pay any charge for making necessary changes in your Aadhaar. Only supporting documents will be required. Such as ID and address proof.
