5 Days Working in Banks : Crores of bank customers of the country want to know whether banks will work for five days? Till now, banks in the country remain closed on all Sundays, second and fourth Saturdays. Those who are working, go to the bank and settle their work on Saturday. If banks work for 5 days, then the biggest impact will be on the working people. However, this will provide relief to the bank employees and their work quality will improve. The government has now told when will the 5-day working start in the country?
Government gave information
The government has told the Parliament that the proposal to implement a 5-day working week in banks is currently under consideration. The Indian Banks Association (IBA) has recommended keeping banks closed on all Saturdays. The government is currently considering this.
What is the proposal?
The All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) has demanded that banks should remain open only from Monday to Friday. They say that this will improve the health, quality of work and morale of the employees. Today, this system has been adopted in many countries and the private sector.
Currently, government banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Banks work normally on the remaining Saturdays. This rule was implemented in 2015. Rajya Sabha MP KC Venugopal asked questions in Parliament on this issue. He wanted to know what the government is doing about this proposal, whether it is stuck due to lack of staff and what is the plan ahead.
Government’s response
The government replied that the IBA proposal is under consideration. It also said that every bank recruits staff according to its requirement. As of 31 March 2025, 96% of the posts are filled, the remaining vacancies are due to common reasons like retirement or resignation.
Will there be relief soon?
At present, no fixed date has been set for all Saturday holidays. But it is certain that the government and IBA are looking into this issue seriously. A concrete decision may be taken in the coming time. If this proposal is implemented, then bank employees will get two days off every week.
