WhatsApp has announced several security features that help users identify suspicious activity, increase account security, and prevent online fraud. These features are intended to protect users from financial fraud, account hacking, and unauthorized account access.
Silencing unknown callers
WhatsApp’s “Silence Unknown Callers” feature is a handy security feature. When turned on, calls from numbers that aren’t saved in your contacts are automatically silenced. This helps prevent spam calls and calls from fraudsters who try to defraud people by posing as customer support, government officials, or bank employees.
Although the calls are muted, users can still view them later in the Calls tab and Notifications section.

Scammers often try to steal passwords, bank details, OTPs, or account-related information by using screen sharing. This warning alerts you in advance so you don’t accidentally share your important information with anyone.
Device Linking Alert
Scammers often try to convince users to link their WhatsApp account to another device by making false claims like technical support or account verification. WhatsApp already warns you in such cases.
The app can also show where the request came from, so you can check if it’s legitimate or suspicious, and then grant permission.
Two-Step Verification
WhatsApp’s “Two-Step Verification” feature adds an additional layer of security. It requires entering a 6-digit PIN to verify or reset your account. This feature protects users even if a fraudster obtains the SMS verification code through phishing or social engineering.
Security experts generally recommend that two-step verification be turned on for all messaging and financial accounts, so that no one can access your account without permission.
