The weather has changed in North India. Snowfall in the hilly states and continuous rain in many parts of the country have brought a chill. Chills are now felt in the mornings and evenings in plain areas like Delhi-NCR, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

In many places, people have stopped using fans, coolers, or ACs at night. The chill is gradually intensifying, and people are resorting to light blankets.

New spell of rain in southern and northeastern states

According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rain will continue in many states of South India for the next few days. Heavy rain is expected in many areas of Tamil Nadu, interior Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, and Mahe between October 9th and 12th.

A warning for strong winds has also been issued in Telangana during these days. Meanwhile, Odisha will remain cloudy from October 9th to 11th, with light to moderate rainfall possible in many areas. The weather remains active in Northeast India as well. The Meteorological Department predicts intermittent rain in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on October 9th and 10th. Rain is also expected in many parts of Arunachal Pradesh on October 10th. The humid weather in these areas is now becoming pleasant with cool breezes.

Rain has stopped in Rajasthan, sunshine will bring back the beauty

According to the Meteorological Department, the rains in Rajasthan have now stopped. Starting October 9th, the state’s weather will remain dry and the skies will be clear. Sunshine in the afternoon will bring a slight increase in temperatures, although a slight chill will persist in the morning and night. Weather experts predict that there is no chance of rain for the next week. Winter will be in full swing in the state by the end of October or the beginning of November. This means that cold winds will soon arrive in the desert regions as well.

Snow-capped mountains: Cold intensifies in Uttarakhand, Himachal and Kashmir

The first major snowfall of this season has intensified the impact of winter in the hilly states of North India. A thick blanket of snow has covered the high altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir. Heavy snowfall in Himachal’s Kullu, Mandi, and Lahaul-Spiti districts has caused a sharp drop in temperatures. Gondhla in Lahaul-Spiti received 30 cm of snow, Keylong 15 cm, Hansa 5 cm, and Kukumseri about 3.2 cm. The snowfall has affected vehicular movement on the Manali-Leh highway, and vehicles heading to Leh have been stopped at Darcha for safety reasons.

Temperatures drop, cold wave begins

The Meteorological Department has reported that due to snowfall and rain, minimum temperatures in hilly areas have been recorded 5 to 6 degrees Celsius below normal. Maximum temperatures have also dropped by 7 to 14 degrees Celsius. Cold wave-like conditions have developed in the higher elevations of Himachal and Uttarakhand. Local weather offices say moderate to heavy rainfall has also occurred in the central and lower mountainous regions of the state, further intensifying the cold.

The mood of the weather is changing across the country

The weather is slowly changing in the northern and central parts of the country. While the last of the monsoon rains continues in South and Northeast India, cold winds have begun to blow in North India. Light fog has spread in the mornings and cool winds in the evenings in the plains, including Delhi-NCR. According to meteorologists, temperatures will continue to drop in the coming days, and the cold will be at its peak by Diwali.
