Weather Alert: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of a significant decrease in the rainfall activity in Jammu and Kashmir from August 27.
However, heavy rains may continue in some parts of northwest India for the next 6-7 days. Apart from this, a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued in many other areas of the country.
Rainy weather in Northwest India
Heavy rain is likely to occur in Northwest India over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, East Rajasthan for the next 7 days. Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab may receive heavy rain from 27 and 30 August to 1 September, West Rajasthan from 29 to 31 August and Uttar Pradesh on 1 and 2 September. There is a warning of very heavy rain in Uttarakhand on 28, 29 August and 1, 2 September. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and West Rajasthan on 27 and 28 August.
Heavy rains in Northeast India
Heavy rains are likely in Northeast India from August 28 to 30 in Arunachal Pradesh and in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura for the next 7 days. Light to moderate rains along with thunder and lightning have also been warned in these areas for the next 5 days.
East and Central India:
Heavy rainfall is likely to occur over eastern and central Indian states like Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar and Jharkhand from August 27 to 30. Chhattisgarh is likely to experience very heavy rainfall on August 27 and 28 and Odisha on August 27. Light to moderate rainfall with thundershowers and lightning is likely to occur over these areas for the next 7 days.
Rains also in western India
Heavy rains are likely in western India, Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada for the next 7 days. Konkan may receive very heavy rain on August 27 and the Ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra may receive very heavy rain on August 27 and 28. A warning of light to moderate rain along with thunder and lightning has been issued in this region as well.
Heavy rains in South and Central India
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Kerala and coastal Karnataka till August 28. In particular, coastal Karnataka and Telangana are likely to receive heavy rainfall at some places today, August 27.
Caution and Preparedness
The Meteorological Department has advised local administrations and residents to remain alert in view of the threat of heavy rain, flooding and landslides. People travelling to the affected areas are advised to monitor the weather conditions and take necessary precautions.
